Latest Windows update addressing Spectre and Meltdown flaws

FTR users that are currently running Windows 10 or Windows Server 2012, may be experiencing an issue with the latest Microsoft updates which were released January 3, 2018.  These updates only affect FTR users that are running editions of Windows 10, Windows Server 2012 or where they have not enabled deferred updates (which generally applies to Windows 10 Home users and non business account users).

The most recent updates (KB4056892, KB4056891, KB4056890, etc.) are causing a fault with FTR Reporter software due to an unhandled exception as indicated in the image below.

FTR has found that the above exception stems from a known issue with the previously mentioned Microsoft security update:

FTR is aware of this issue and has made it a priority to resolve it as quickly as possible.  We are in contact with Microsoft and will continue to update the website periodically to keep users abreast of our progress.

In the meantime, the patch can be temporarily uninstalled to ensure that FTR software performs optimally.

How to uninstall the patch:

  1.       Click Start and type cmd
